How to become a HOOP pilot: requirements, training and earnings

What HOOP looks for in a pilot, how verification works, and how weekly earnings are actually calculated.

Who qualifies

You need a valid commercial driving licence held for at least two years, a clean driving record, an Aadhaar-linked identity you can verify digitally, and a smartphone running Android 10 or iOS 15 and above.

You do not need to own a vehicle. HOOP pilots drive customer cars, not their own, which removes the largest capital barrier in most gig driving work.

Verification, step by step

Applications run through a digital KYC flow: identity, licence, address and a background document check. Most complete within two to four working days, and you can track the status in the pilot app throughout.

Nothing about this step is skippable. A HOOP pilot is handed the keys to a vehicle worth several lakh rupees by someone who has never met them — the verification bar is what makes that exchange reasonable.

Training

Induction covers EV-specific handling, charging connector types and station etiquette, the OTP handover protocol, and what to do in the four situations that most commonly go wrong: station out of service, customer unreachable, vehicle fault, and a payment failure at the charger.

Pilots who handle electric vehicles for the first time also complete a supervised trip before going live independently.

How earnings work

Each completed trip pays a base fare plus a distance component, with surge applied in high-demand zones and windows. Earnings are visible per trip in the app and settle weekly.

Two things move a pilot's weekly total more than anything else: consistency of availability during peak windows, and rating. Both are shown transparently in the app rather than buried in a dashboard you have to ask for.

Stop spending your evenings at a charger

A HOOP pilot collects your EV, charges it and brings it back — tracked live, fare locked before you confirm.
